Sumiko Hara was a pianist before she became passionate about the viola da gamba. She obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tokai University in Japan where she began to study the viola.


Selected by the Yomiuri New Talent Newspaper Program, she gave a recital in Tokyo before arriving in France in 2013 to study at the CRR in Paris with Ariane Maurette and Guido Balestracci.


Sumiko is a member of the Poseidon ensemble (directed by Arnaud Condé) and the Les Figures ensemble. The latter is the winner of the "Evolution Series" program in 2016-2017 in Osaka Phoenix hall, and won the Barocksaal Prize in Kyoto in 2018.


Sumiko Hara is currently perfecting her skills at the Boulogne-Billancourt RRC with Nima Ben David at the RRC. She participated in the recording of George Gurdjieff's music, arranged for viol consort by Ben David who directed the Belle Feuille consort at the Quartet Festival in the West in 2017.
